Creating Good Jobs

Senator Preston wants to give all Illinoisans access to opportunities that will help them live comfortably and provide a good life for their families.

He’s been able to do that for himself and his family by pursuing carpentry and progressing to own a successful construction business. That is why he will continue to prioritize improving outcomes for those participating in apprenticeship programs while making them more accessible to underrepresented groups.

In his first legislative term, Senator Preston successfully secured one million dollars for organizations in the 16th District to expand construction and building trades. He also garnered bipartisan support and passed a bill that ensures those working for contractors receive the prevailing wage rate for their work.

Senator Preston’s commitment to increasing access to the trades goes beyond just legislation. Senator Preston personally recruited a couple dozen young people who expressed an interest in carpentry, provided them transportation to Elk Grove Village, and sponsored them to apply for membership in the Carpenters Union. A move that will lead to better economic opportunities and help working-class families thrive in Illinois.

He will continue championing bills and taking action that support the trades and working-class in every capacity he can.
